Designed as both a gathering space and a functional work of art, the star-shaped installation serves as a welcoming landmark inspired by Newark’s multicultural communities.Throughout the evening, the artist will share textiles that informed the creation of the artwork, inviting visitors to relax, picnic, and connect around the installation. Guests are encouraged to bring a favorite blanket, fabric, or textile of their own to help create a colorful communal gathering space. The first 100 attendees will also receive a free sticker book inspired by the project.At 7 PM, returning artist Yeimy Gamez Castillo will lead a special collaborative performance inspired by Constellation Bench, joined by local musicians Janétza Miranda, Storm, Alejandro Ataucusi, Mavrothi Kontanis, and Josue Simon. Following the performance, the artists will invite the community to participate in an open jam session, creating a shared musical experience that brings together performers, makers, and audiences. Bring your own instrument—or make one on-site during the festival—and join in as we create music together and carry the energy into the evening.At dusk (approximately 8:45 PM), Eirini Linardaki will present a special projection of I Met a Sky That Wanted to Be Sea, a two-channel digital animation (10 min). Created at in New York, the work brings together fabrics collected and scanned in Newark through community workshops with Project for Empty Space and Newark Grounds. Through shifting constellations of color, pattern, and movement, the animation explores transformation, memory, and the weaving and unweaving of collective histories.Food vendors will be on-site throughout the evening, making it easy to settle in, enjoy a picnic, and experience the festival after dark. Families are also encouraged to bring their own food, snacks, and blankets to gather, share a meal, and spend time together in the park. With hands-on activities, live performances, picnic areas, and the splash pad open for cooling off, NIGHT FEST offers a welcoming summer evening for visitors of all ages.--NIGHT FEST is part of Newark Grounds, a walkable cultural corridor connecting Newark Penn Station and Teachers Village.
