Honoring the First Peoples: A Commemoration at the Octagon Earthworks

Join us at the Octagon Earthworks for a special event commemorating the rich heritage and enduring presence of the First Peoples of this land. As part of the national America 250 observance, this program brings together tribal representatives, cultural experts and community partners for a thoughtful discussion on the significance of the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks—now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site—and the vital role of Indigenous cultures in shaping our shared history.

The event will include a panel-style talk featuring insights from Native voices and subject-matter experts, exploring the cultural, historical and spiritual importance of this sacred landscape.

Weather permitting, attendees will also have the opportunity to join a guided tour of the Octagon Earthworks following the program.

This event is free and open to the public with no registration required. We invite you to listen, learn and reflect on the deep histories and living traditions that continue to inspire and inform our nation’s journey.
