Gethsemane Baptist Church and Anthony Smith Ministries
Presents a Gospel Extravaganza
Gethsemane Baptist Church (GBC) and Anthony Smith Ministries (ASM) present a Gospel Extravaganza to celebrate Gethsemane’s 107th church anniversary and the 24th Pastoral Anniversary of Apostle Anthony Smith and Rev. Sonia Smith. The Gospel Extravaganza will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 100 Montgomery St., Newark, NJ beginning at 4:00 pm.
For the past few years, Apostle and Reverend Smith have commuted weekly from Williamsburg, Virginia to serve as the pastors of Gethsemane Baptist Church, 6019 Madison Street, West New York, NJ.
“The gospel extravaganza is to celebrate my healing after being near death several years ago from H1N1 or swine flu as it is commonly called,” said Apostle Smith. “The doctors told my family I wouldn’t survive and if I did, I wouldn’t be able to preach or do many of the things I did prior to my illness. But the devil is a liar. God healed my body and I am preaching and teaching better than before. To celebrate my healing and to glorify God’s miraculous powers, He gave me a vision to host a gospel extravaganza. It is my prayer for everyone to come and be blessed by the anointed move of God. Matthew 6:33 says, But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.”
Nationally renowned Bishop Leonard S. Scott, Indianapolis, Indiana will be the main musical guest. Father, pastor, community advocate, humanitarian, songwriter, dentist, educator, singer, musician, entrepreneur, host of a medical radio talk show, TV and radio preacher, and Bishop; these describe some of the talents and assignments of Bishop Scott. Jeremiah 1:4 says, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee.” God has greatly anointed Bishop Scott in the area of music.
In 1976 the Lord led Bishop Scott to start what has become the world’s oldest black-owned gospel recording company, Tyscot Records. Tyscot has been home to many great recording artists, including Rev. John P. Kee and the New Life Community Choir, Dr. Bobby Jones and New Life, Rodnie Bryant and the Christian Community Mass Choir, the Gospel Music Workshop of America Women of Worship, Greater Grace Temple Mass Choir, The Rance Allen Group, Bishop Larry D.Trotter, Deitrick Haddon and Voices of Unity, Inner City Mass Choir and Trinity Temple Full Gospel Mass Choir featuring Kirk Franklin and many others.
The concert will feature New Orleans’s recording artist Gail Fly. Her debut album, "Who Will Worship?” released in 2007, was awarded the 2009 Rhythm of Gospel Awards’ “Traditional Female Vocalist of the Year” and was also nominated "Praise & Worship Album of the Year." To God be the Glory!
The single, “In the Presence of the Lord” of Gail’s sophomore project (Nov 2011) received the following 2011 Rhythm of Gospel nominations: “Worship & Praise Artist of the Year”, “Rhythm of Gospel Artist of the Year”, “Traditional Female Vocalist of the Year” and “Praise and Worship Song of the Year.”
Other praise and worship guests will include saxophone player Curtis Bailey, Full Will of God Ministries Praise team, Heart of Worship Praise Dancers, Divine Worship, and Men of Valor.
GBC’s Angelic Praise, Gospel Mime, GFM, and Transformational Praise will also minister in song and praise dancing at the concert.
Pastor Larry Davies, Houston, Texas and host of the Texas Annual Gospel Music Awards will serve as Master of Ceremony.
