It accompanies the group exhibition The Absent One (March 12-April 25, 2026), which frames such artistic practices as the nurturing and manifestation of heritages that are not passed down as concrete objects but as a seed which is at times a fugitive, a whisper, an absence.The talk begins with a presentation by the artist highlighting the creative process behind her major works, such as Preparing Kimchi (2000) and a series of chalkboard paintings born from her trip on the Trans-Siberian Railroad. A subsequent conversation with the gallery’s director Diana SeoHyung will delve deeper into latent connections between different groups of Kim’s work such as early foreshadowings of the screen, the blackboard as a “site” for images rather than as an expressive medium, and the shifting role of texts juxtaposed with images.
