The Rothko Chapel, an ecumenical site in Houston, Texas, has been praised as "an ethical compass for our times."Conceived by John and Dominique de Menil, art patrons who immigrated from France in 1941, the Rothko Chapel was conceived during the nineteen sixties and inaugurated in 1971 as an institution of a new kind— at the crossroads of religion, art, ethics and politics—it carries the de Menil’s spiritual and political message of inclusion. "The Rothko Chapel is a sanctuary open to all, a no-man’s-land of God -named or unnamed- thus every man’s land," Dominique de Menil stated. The conversation will also focus on the making of the young Mark Rothko and his Jewish identity.The Rothko Chapel is now led by Imam Abdullah Antepli, a leader in faith, spirituality and social justice.
