The program features works almost exclusively by living composers — including three world premieres by the finalists of YNYC's Daniel Thompson Memorial Competition for Young Composers, one of the longest-running composer development programs of its kind in the country, with over 55 commissions since 2005. This season's finalists — PJ Mooney, Shane Scott Cook, and Matthew Marcus — have each worked directly with YNYC singers and conductor Alex Canovas throughout the rehearsal process, making these premieres as much collaboration as commission.Highlights from the program include Caroline Shaw's its motion keeps, a new arrangement of Stephen Sondheim's Being Alive by our Arranger-in-Residence, Ben Bram, and Even When He Is Silent — alongside new works that round out an evening equal parts intimate and expansive.Each evening will close with alumni invited up to sing "The Road Home" by Stephen Paulus.
