Details on our instagram page @crankitupanaachFor information on Sakhi:Sakhi for South Asian Survivors exists to represent the South Asian and Indo-Caribbean diaspora in a survivor-led movement for gender justice and to honor the collective and inherent power of all survivors of violence.Sakhi directly works with survivors of gender based violence (GBV) and provides them needed resources and support.48% of South Asians have experienced at least one form of gender based violence. 41% witnessed GBV in their households and 25% of children experienced child sexual abuse. GBV is the leading cause of homelessness in NYC with 38% of survivors becoming houseless.Sakhi served 615 clients in 2024. 93% of survivors accessed resources towards emotional and financial self-sufficiency. 90% exited Sakhi's housing program after receiving stable, permanent housingOften times in South Asian and Indo-Caribbean households, abuse goes unrecognized - it hides within "standard" gender roles and the "well this is what it is." We question what is normal and wish to re-write this narrative. Everyone should have a chance at a life they wish to lead with the freedom to do what they want.
