Визуальный язык работ намеренно опирается на стиль, узнаваемый широкой аудиторией, повторяя историю искусства — от древних рукописей до импрессионизма, поп-арта и арте повера —ем самым демонстрируя, что акт разрушения может быть осмыслен как форма визуального откровения. Здесь искусственный интеллект выступает не как инструмент, а как соавтор, генерируя новые художественные коды и неожиданные визуальные решения.

We invite you to the opening of the project by Marat Guelman and the +-Komma group, “First of All, It’s Beautiful,” which will take place on April 23, 2026, at 6:00 PM (New York time) at Ethan Cohen Gallery: 251 West 19th Street, New York, NY.

NO FEAR.
The nuclear mushroom cloud, rendered in various easily recognizable artistic styles, is the artist’s call to resist nuclear blackmail.
This project, by Marat Guelman and the group Plus, Minus, Comma is a response to Putin’s threats to start a nuclear war. It is impossible to ignore them, but if we give in to fear, we will make the blackmailer stronger and submit to him.
Our proposed solution is to stop being afraid and learn to live with this threat, just as we live with the inevitability of death.
The aestheticization of the nuclear explosion is meant to disarm the blackmailer. His threats are powerless if, when looking at a nuclear explosion, the viewer exclaims:
“First of all, it's beautiful”.

Marat Guelman is a curator, gallerist, and cultural figure who has had a significant impact on the development of the post-Soviet contemporary art scene. Born in Chișinău in 1960, he founded one of the first private contemporary art galleries in Moscow in 1990. It became a key platform for the new wave of artists and a laboratory for artistic experimentation. In the 2000s, Guelman headed the PERMM Museum of Contemporary Art in Perm, initiating large-scale cultural programs that fostered the development of regional identity through art.
Following his emigration, Marat Guelman founded "Guelman & Unbekannt" in Berlin, one of the first galleries in Europe dedicated to art created in collaboration with artificial intelligence. Today, Guelman works as a curator, cultural strategist, and artist, using artificial intelligence as a medium for artistic expression.

The project “First of All, It’s Beautiful” was created in collaboration with the art group +-Komma, founded in Montenegro in 2023 and comprising Ruslan Solopeev, Boban Marković Jr., and Jean Jules. The group works in the field of visual art, experimenting with various media including graphics, video, and installation.
The project is inspired by the observation that the theme of nuclear threat is frequently employed as an instrument of political pressure. However, Guelman deliberately avoids direct political rhetoric. He proposes accepting the inevitability of the end of civilization in the same way that a person accepts their own mortality. Only by acknowledging finitude can one attain clarity and freedom of existence. The project explores how culture can transform fear into conscious experience, and threat into the language of art.
The essence of the project lies in its radical gesture: placing the image of a nuclear explosion within a familiar visual context—as an element of interior space or aesthetic contemplation. In the same way, the idea of the end of civilization must become part of our worldview. The project is based on the paradoxical act of stripping the symbol of destruction of its exclusivity and giving it a form that evokes reflection rather than fear. The visual language of the works intentionally draws on widely recognizable artistic styles—echoing the history of art from ancient manuscripts to Impressionism, Pop Art, and Arte Povera—thus dissolving the boundary between beauty and destruction. Here, artificial intelligence is not a tool, but a co-author, generating new artistic codes and unexpected visual solutions.
