Through a dreamlike visual language, Homeland reveals the quiet resilience of a country marked by economic hardship, high unemployment, and emigration. Around one quarter of the population has left the country in the last twenty years for economic reasons. Left behind are either those who are too old to go abroad to work – and the children of those who have departed. Maria Guțu is one of those children.
