📚 Lecture: “Reefs of Time: What Fossils Reveal About Coral Survival”

🎤 Speaker: Dr. Lisa S. Gardiner

With rising global temperatures, pollution, and overfishing, today’s coral reefs face significant threats. As predictions about the future of these vital ecosystems grow increasingly dire, scientists are turning to an unexpected source for solutions: the fossilized remains of ancient corals.

Join author and geoscientist Dr. Lisa S. Gardiner as she explores how studying fossilized limestone cities and historical evidence of reef performance can illuminate ways to help coral survive current environmental challenges. In this captivating talk, Dr. Gardiner will share fieldwork adventures in tropical locales, including insights from her new book, Reefs of Time: What Fossils Reveal About Coral Survival.

Dr. Lisa S. Gardiner is a writer, educator, and geoscientist. Her work has appeared in publications such as Scientific American and The Atlantic, and she holds a PhD in geoscience focused on paleoecology, along with an MFA in nonfiction writing.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the vital connections between past and present for the future of coral reefs!
