Jimin Seo Reads Park Hyunki: An Evening of Artist Writing & Poetry

Please join Gallery Hyundai New York Project Space for an intimate evening of reading artist writing and poetry. Poet Jimin Seo will read from a selection of the late Korean artist’s writings in Korean, then writer and translator Diana SeoHyung (다이애나 서형) will read her translation of Park Hyunki’s text in English. Seo will also read a selection from his latest book OSSIA, winner of The Changes Book Prize judged by Louise Glück. Seo’s lyrical poetry which traverses a diversity of forms will act as a conduit to enliven Park’s work that grappled with Korean folk traditions, duration in art, as well as the collision between natural and virtual worlds, shaped by a sense of longing and love for his homeland.

Jimin Seo was born in Seoul, Korea and immigrated to the US to join his family at the age of eight. He earned his MFA from Columbia University and BA from Florida State University. He is the author of , a winner of The Changes Book Prize judged by Louise Glück. His poems can be found in Action Fokus, The Canary, LitHub, Pleiades, mercury firs, and The Bronx Museum. His most recent projects were Poems of Consumption with H. Sinno at the Barbican Centre in London, and a site activation for salazarsequeromedina's Open Pavilion at the 4th Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism.

갤러리현대 뉴욕 프로젝트 스페이스는 박현기 작가의 전시 《Pass Through the City》의 연계 프로그램으로 시서문 낭독회를 개최한다. 시인 서지민(Jimin Seo)이 고(故) 박현기 작가의 글을 한국어로 읽고, 작가이자 번역가인 다이애나 서형(Diana SeoHyung)이 영어로 번역하여 낭독한다. 서지민은 루이스 글뤽(Louise Glück)이 선정한 체인지스 상(Changes Book Prize)을 수상한 최신작 『오시아(OSSIA)』 또한 낭독할 예정이다. 모국에 대한 사랑과 그리움을 담은 서지민의 서정적인 시문은 다양한 문학적 양식을 가로지르며, 한국적인 정서, 예술의 시간성, 자연과 인공적 세계의 충돌을 탐구했던 박현기의 작업에 새로 숨을 불어넣는다. 

서울에서 태어난 서지민은 가족과 함께하기 위해 여덟 살의 나이에 미국으로 이민했다. 그는 콜럼비아 대학교에서 MFA를, 플로리다 주립대학교에서 학사 과정을 졸업했다. 저서 『오시아(OSSIA)』는 루이스 글뤽(Louise Glück)이 선정한 체인지스 상(Changes Book Prize)을 수상했으며, 《Action Fokus》, 《The Canary, 《LitHub》, 《Pleiades》, 《mercury firs》, 브롱스 미술관(The Bronx Museum) 등에서 그의 시가 소개되었다. 최근 H. 시노 (H.Sinno)와 함께한 프로젝트 《Poems of Consumption》이 런던의 바비칸 센터(Barbican Centre)에서 공개되었고, 살라자르 세케로 메디나(salazarsequeromedina)의 제 4회 서울건축비엔날레 출품작인 《Open Pavilion》을 장소특정적 이벤트로 활성화시킨 바 있다.
