- **Event Description**: William Boling of photo book publisher Fall Line Press &amp; three of their published photographers discuss the process of photo book publishingAbout this EventWilliam Boling of Fall Line Press will present an overview of the photobook as both a creative medium and a collaborative process, drawing on his 15 years experience publishing contemporary photography. He will discuss how projects evolve from bodies of images into fully realized books through editing, sequencing, and design, as well as the practical realities of producing and sustaining independent publishing and what it takes to get your book published.Following this introduction, Boling will be joined by three Fall Line artists, Beth Galton, Jessica Hays, and Christopher Lowell, whose books will be featured at the event. Together, they will discuss the origins of their projects, key decisions in shaping their work for the page, and what it means to see their photographs take form as physical books.The program will conclude with an open conversation with the audience, offering insight into artistic process, collaboration, and the role of the photobook today, followed by a book signing with the artists.•This FREE In-Person event will be held at Soho Photo Gallery, 539 West 23rd Street, Chelsea, NYC.•Seating is limited. Please register here to reserve your seat.Speaker Bios:Beth Galton:Beth Galton is a photo-based artist, with an educational background in the natural sciences and three decades of experience as a professional photographer in the editorial and commercial arena. These elements of her history are the lens through which she explores the world.Beth’s fine art and professional work have won numerous accolades and been exhibited extensively throughout her career in the U.S. and Europe. She was previously represented by Marlborough Gallery in NYC. Beth won the prestigious Sony World Photography Award 2024 for her London Plane Series in Still Life, and published her new book, COVID DIARY in October2024 with Fall Line Press.Most recently her work has been exhibited at The Delaware Contemporary Museum, Wilmington DE, Griffin Museum in Winchester MA, Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, Tampa FL, Montpellier Contemporian, Montpellier France, Soho Photo Gallery, NYC NY, Wave Hill, Riverdale NY, The Center for Fine Art Photography, Fort Collins CO, the Center for Photographic Art, Carmel, CA Atlanta Photography Group, Atlanta GA, Beth Urdang Gallery, Wellesley, MA.Beth lives and works in New York City, where she is moved and inspired by the city every day.Jessica Hayes:Jessica Hays is a conceptual photographer, alternative process printmaker, and artist based in Montana and Chicago. Her intimate work draws on personal experience to communicate ubiquitous human experiences, tackling topics like mental health, trauma, environmental issues and loneliness. Grounded in the American west, she explores relationships between people, places, and experiences of being deeply connected to ones surroundings. Her work blurs the lines between the uniquely individual and collective experiences.Hays works in a variety of processes including pigment printing, handmade artist books, video, and historic and experimental photo processes. She has lectured on topics of mental health and alternative process photography at conferences, mental health summits, and as a guest speaker in classrooms. Her work has been shown internationally in galleries as museums, published in a variety of magazines and textbooks, and is held in several public and private collections in the US and Canada. Hays earned an MFA in Photography at ColumbiaCollege Chicago, and earned a BA in Film and Photography and a BA in Environmental Studies concurrently at Montana State University. She was recently recognized as a Critical Mass Finalist and shortlisted for the BarTur Environmental Award. Hays’ work aims to explore the long lasting effects of the land on human psyche from trauma to restoration.Christopher Lowell:Christopher Lowell investigates themes of nostalgia, utopia/dystopia and autobiography in his work, shooting on film and using traditional printing practices to convey the most “honest” interpretation of his photographs.He has had numerous exhibitions throughout the US, including solo shows at Jackson Fine Art in Atlanta, Photo LA, and the Stephen Cohen Gallery in Los Angeles. His work is included in the Sovereign Collection and the Elton John Collection among others, and has been featured in several publications including Interview Magazine, Glamour, and Vanity Fair. He studied photography at the University of Southern California and the New School for Design.•This special event is produced by Soho Photo Gallery's Alternative Process Competition Committee. The 2026 edition of this prestigious annual photo competition opens for entries in July.
