In this incisive account, celebrated biographer Jean Strouse (Morgan: American Financier) portrays the intersection of two outsiders’ lives — Singer Sargent, an expatriate artist, and Wertheimer, a wealthy “Anglo-Jew”— during England’s Edwardian age, amidst “the dazzle and unease of a world in flux”. Strouse, a winner of the Bancroft Prize, was the director of the famed Cullman Center at the New York Public Library from 2003 to 2017.
