P&T Knitwear is pleased to welcome Dr. Melody Glenn to celebrate and discuss her new book, Mother of Methadone: the stories of two doctors battling the opioid epidemic half a century apart to reveal the origins of today's public health crisis, and a call to remove the stigma against addicts, addiction, and treatment providers.

Dr. Glenn will be joined in conversation by Maia Szalavitz, author . Along with a discussion and audience Q&A, Dr. Glenn will also sign copies ofMother of Methadone.

  • This is a ticketed in-store event with limited amphitheater-style seating. Doors open at 6:30pm.
  • Cost of a $5 general admission ticket can be applied towards your purchase of the featured event book or any product in our café the night of an event.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

is a Tucson author and addiction and emergency physician at The University of Arizona. Her first book, Mother of Methadone about the work of Dr. Marie Nyswander and Dr. Glenn’s own work battling the opioid epidemic a half a century apart, will be published by Beacon Press in August. While a Tin House Workshop Alum with an MFA in prose from Mills College, she also conducts research and serves as the medical director for both the inpatient addiction medicine consult service and an outpatient addiction clinic. Her work has been supported by the DeGroot Foundation, the Arizona Commission on the Arts, and an El Sur artist residency, and her publications have appeared in both medical and literary journals, and she speaks nationally on addiction.


ABOUT THE MODERATOR

Maia Szalavitz is a neuroscience journalist and contributing opinion writer for the New York Times who has written for numerous publications including TIME, Wired, Elle, the Nation and Scientific American. Her most recent book is Undoing Drugs: The Untold Story of Harm Reduction and the Future of Addiction, which is the first history of the movement aimed at focusing drug policy on minimizing harms, not highs.
