Liu Shuishi’s canvases are characterized by elongated, spectral figures and bold abstract markings, rendered in thick impasto oil paint. His palette moves between the emotionally charged and the romantically serene.Informed by the writings of Nietzsche, Kant, and Freud, as well as the discipline of traditional Chinese calligraphy, Shuishi’s work is not merely a depiction of figures, but a visualization of thought itself. This exhibition traces the artist's journey since his 2007 philosophical awakening, showcasing a relentless pursuit of what he calls "absolute beauty."The SpeakersLiu Shuishi - ArtistLiu Shuishi (b. 1962, China) is a New York-based painter and installation artist. A graduate of the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts, his work synthesizes German and Abstract Expressionism with the gestural precision of Chinese calligraphy.A philosophical turning point in 2007 reshaped his visual language, leading to a practice centered on questions of consciousness. His work has been exhibited globally at prestigious venues including the Salon du Carrousel du Louvre (Paris), the 56th Venice Biennale (2015), and the Today Art Museum (Beijing). He is the recipient of a Silver Prize from the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. His works are held in the collections of the Macao Foundation and the late former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.Vittoria Riccio - Art Historian & EducatorVittoria Riccio is an art historian and educator based in New York City. She earned her BA from La Sapienza University of Rome and her MA from the Institute of Fine Arts, NYU, where she is currently a PhD candidate in Art History.Specializing in 17th-century art and architecture, her research explores the propagandistic use of architecture from the Baroque era to the present day. Actively engaged in the contemporary art scenes of both New York and Rome, she integrates modern perspectives into her historical analysis.
