The American Friends of Attingham are pleased to announce details of our annual Fall Benefit Lecture, our only fundraising event of the year.
Over the past two years, Mr. Musson has had unrivalled access to the family papers of the aristocrat and MP Sir George Sitwell (1860-1943) whose knowledge of Italian art and architecture informed his improvements to the gardens and interiors of his ancestral home, Renishaw Hall, in Derbyshire. Sir George was an active and educated figure, a patron of John Singer Sargent and Sir Edwin Lutyens, and author of the highly regarded ˆOn the Making of Gardens. Musson’s lecture will reveal how deeply Sir George studied Italian art and architecture, how this knowledge informed his understanding of English design traditions, and how these interests informed the paths of his famous offspring
