Featuring poetry readings by Alan Hill, Janet Kvammen, Jessica Lee McMillan, Kevin Spenst, and Rob Taylor.

Each poet will read one of their own poems, 
plus one poem by each of the other four poets.

BIOS:
Alan Hill was born in the UK and immigrated to Canada in 2005. He is the former Poet Laureate of the City of New Westminster, BC (2017-2020), and a past president of the Royal City Literary Arts Society (RCLAS) Alan was the editor and curator of A Poetry of Place: Journeys Across New Westminster, published in partnership with New Westminster Arts Services. His writing has been published internationally and his poetry has appeared in Event, CV2, Canadian Literature, subTerrain, Poetry is Dead, among others. He works in the field of community development and immigrant settlement and lives in New Westminster, BC. His book In The Blood, was published by Caitlin Press in 2022.
Janet Kvammen is a poet, mixed media and lens-based artist. A founding RCLAS board member in 2012, Janet is the President of Royal City Literary Arts Society. Active on both the literary and arts scene of New Westminster, Janet is a host and coordinator of local reading events and art exhibits. She is the recipient of the Bernie Legge Artist of the Year awarded by the New West Chamber at the 2023 Platinum Awards. Janet is the current Poet Laureate of the City of New Westminster.
Jessica Lee McMillan (she/her) is a poet and steadfast civil servant. She has assisted vulnerable people and newcomers through teaching and legal support for almost 20 years. Jessica has an English MA, is a graduate of The Writer’s Studio at Simon Fraser University, and is a full member of the League of Canadian Poets. Recent/forthcoming poems can be read in CV2, The Malahat Review, Crab Creek Review, QWERTY, and Canadian Literature. Jessica’s chapbook a shine like a dime in the dirt under the moon is forthcoming via Pinhole Poetry in Spring 2026. Jessica is also an Editorial Director at Sapperton Community Arts Association, a First Reader at EVENT Magazine, and sits on the English Program Advisory Committee for Kwantlen Polytechnic University. She lives on the land of the Halkomelem-speaking Peoples (New Westminster, BC) with her little family and large dog. jessicaleemcmillan.com

Kevin Spenst (he/him) is the author of four full-length books of poetry and 19 chapbooks. An assortment of his lyric essays, interviews with neighbours, and personal accounts from others make up the collection Gathered Together in the Stanley Park Manor: a Collective History, out with Anvil Press in the fall of 2026. He is one of the organizers of the Dead Poets Reading Series, has a chapbook review column for subTerrain magazine, occasionally co-hosts Wax Poetic on Vancouver Co-op Radio, and is one of the poetry ambassadors for Vancouver’s 2025-2027 Poet Laureate Elee Kraljii Gardiner. He is one of the Poetry Mentors at The Writer’s Studio at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) territory where he cohabitates with the one and only Cheryl Rossi.


Rob Taylor is the author of five poetry collections, including Strangers and The News, which was a finalist for the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize. His recent collection is Weather was published in 2024 by Gaspereau Press. Rob is also the editor of What the Poets Are Doing: Canadian Poets in Conversation and Best Canadian Poetry 2019. He teaches creative writing at the University of the Fraser Valley, and lives with his family in Port Moody, BC, on the unceded territories of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) people.
