WORKSHOP DATES July 27th - 10am to 1pm July 28th - 4pm to 8pm Participants will learn to create a mini beaded floral pin using embroidery-style flat-stitch beadwork. This hands-on workshop will encourage participants to explore their own identities and worldviews through design. Throughout the workshop, Carly will share her extensive knowledge of beading and speak about its cultural significance to the Métis community. Participants will also gain insight into Carly's artistic practice and her approach to storytelling through beadwork, design, and community connection. All supplies will be included / Food and Drinks will be available by donation. About Carly Nabess: Carly Nabess (she/her) is a two-spirit Métis multidisciplinary artist. She was born and raised in Terrace, British Columbia, on the ancestral lands of the Tsimshian peoples, the chosen home of the Northwest Métis Association in Region 6. Her deep connection to her Métis heritage was nurtured by her grandparents, Olive and Andy Nabess, her father, Gayton Nabess, and her many aunties and uncles. In her various community roles, including Métis Women's Representative for her local, Carly has built strong relationships with Elders, communities, and leaders across the Nation and the Tsimshian Nation. She has represented her local, regional, and provincial communities at national forums, emphasizing the importance of Métis culture and heritage. Her art, which includes community-centred murals, Métis floral beadwork and watercolour painting, celebrates 2S+ and Indigenous excellence and explores themes of land, longing, mapping, memory, healing, and identity.Carly is pursuing her Master's of Fine Arts at Emily Carr. Her research focus is on Tuppies (dog blankets) and Métis embroidery-style beadwork.
