- **Event Description**: Join us for a stimulating kōrero as Acclaimed poet, performer and writer Tusiata Avia MNZM is a 2020 Arts Foundation Laureate and recipient of the Theresa Gattung Female Arts Practitioners Award. Of Sāmoan descent, and born and raised in Ōtautahi Christchurch, Avia is known for her powerful and unapologetic performance style, which has seen her tour globally—from Moscow to Jerusalem and Vienna—as well as perform across Aotearoa. 
 
Her iconic one-woman show, Wild Dogs Under My Skirt (2002–2008), established her as a leading New Zealand poet and performer. Avia is the author of four critically acclaimed poetry collections: Wild Dogs Under My Skirt (2004), Bloodclot (2009), Fale Aitu / Spirit House (2016), and The Savage Coloniser Book (2020). Her work boldly interrogates colonisation, cultural identity, and political trauma, and has been especially vital in post-quake and post-mosque attack Christchurch, where she continues to be a fierce voice for her community.
