On the surface, the Winter Solstice celebrates the birth of the Divine Sun God, and many gods of the sun are indeed associated with this season. To Witches, however, this is a Sabbat about the life-giving mother--after all, the God is a child and fully requires her love and care. Because this Sabbat is associated with Earth, its magic centers around fertility, new beginnings, and resurrection.
