Artist in Me seriesThe Animator’s Lab is a one-day creative workshop happening at KNMA Saket, designed to immerse participants in the imaginative world of animation. Led by award-winning animator Kartik Mahajan of IBK Productions, the session introduces how stories are born from simple sketches and raw ideas to expressive visual worlds. Through engaging discussions, demos, and hands-on exercises, participants will explore the foundations of character design, visual language, and world-building.A special highlight of the workshop is the screening of Kartik’s internationally acclaimed animated film Phool Dei. After the screening, Kartik will walk participants through the creative journey behind the film, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at concept development, stylistic decisions, and the animation process. This sets a strong foundation for the practical activities that follow.Participants will then reinterpret Indian folk stories through their own visual lens, using drawing, clay modelling or collage. The experience remains open, playful, and deeply creative transforming the space at KNMA Saket into a lively animation lab where characters take shape, worlds expand, and stories unfold. A graduate of NID Madhya Pradesh and founder of IBK Productions, Kartik works across 2D animation, stop motion, illustration, and character design, drawing inspiration from Indian folktales and cultural narratives.His studio has collaborated with major brands including Google, Jio Cinema, Nykaa, Royal Enfield, and NFDC, and his work has earned top honours such as India Gold at Digicon Asia (Tokyo), the Young Animator of the Year Award, and the WAVES Best Director Award by the Ministry of I&B.Kartik has led workshops and talks at leading institutions like NID, IIT Bombay, NIFT, UPES, and Srishti. At KNMA, he will guide participants through a hands-on exploration of animation, including an exclusive screening and making-of session of Phool Dei.
