Synopsis:

Zami: A New Spelling of My Name is Audre Lorde's 1982 "biomythography," a genre she created that blends biography, history, and myth, chronicling her childhood in Harlem and coming-of-age in the 1950s as a Black lesbian in New York City. The book explores how her identity was shaped by her relationships with women, detailing her formative experiences with candor, lush prose, and personal honesty, and serves as an homage to the women who influenced her life.
