Washington crossed New Jersey over three days in June 1775 on a journey that would prove a prelude to the eight years of the Revolutionary War to come. 

Follow George Washington’s first “Journey Through Jersey” as Commander in Chief on this walk through historic New Brunswick. Meet at Henry Guest House, 58 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ 08901. Dress for the weather, wear sturdy footgear and bring water and snacks. The walk to and from Albany and Neilson Streets will cover about 1 mile and take about 45 minutes.

Stay following the walk for the lecture presentation George Washington Takes Command: The Journey Through Jersey, 1775, Tuesday, June 24, 2025, 7 p.m. at Henry Guest House, 58 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.

Before or after the lecture, visit Oh Freedom! Blacks on the Battlefront and in the Aftermath of the Revolutionary War in New Jersey, a traveling exhibit from New Jersey State Parks, Forests & Historic Sites.
