Jonkonnu

Tryon Palace is excited to bring back our celebration of Jonkonnu! Jonkonnu is one of the Caribbean’s most dynamic and culturally rich traditions and was brought to North Carolina by enslaved peoples. Participants will discover how Jonkonnu reflects a powerful story of resistance, identity, and community passed down through generations.

Enjoy traditional drumming, dancing, and more as we celebrate the exciting tradition of Jonkonnu and explore its Caribbean origins and how it was celebrated here in North Carolina. An engaging opportunity to learn about a holiday with an important local history, this event will be fun for the whole family!
