A stunningly hilarious and tragic tale of a modern father and daughter.

In this 2023 debut play from Emily Feldman, follow Ella and her father, Lou, on a surprise road trip to adopt a rescue dog. Guided by the fourth wall-breaking narrator, named Maps, the duo crosses state lines, family history, and more. From the insistent phone calls with Peg, Ella’s mother, to the oddball characters along the way, this modern theatrical experience is funny, wise, and heartbreaking in every breath.

Directed by Robert Gillet

Emily Feldman is a playwright living in New York City. Her play, The Best We Could (a family tragedy), received its world premiere at Manhattan Theatre Club in 2023 and was developed by the Cape Cod Theatre Project. It received an Edgerton Foundation New Play Award and The Tow Foundation Playwrights Residency, and was included on The Kilroys List. 

Feldman's work has been supported by fellowships at MacDowell, The Playwrights Center, Page 73, SPACE on Ryder Farm, The Ground Floor at Berkeley Rep, and The Playwrights Realm. Her plays have been developed by many theatres and development organizations, including New York Stage and Film, The New Harmony Project, Portland Center Stage, Alliance/Kendeda, Roundabout Theatre Company, American Conservatory Theater, and La Jolla Playhouse.
