In this vividly illustrated talk, art historian Brenda Edgar will take you to the far-flung greatest American collections of the diverse arts of the Global East. She’ll be your guide as you look closely at these precious and exotic works of art from the many cultures of the Asian continent. You’ll start at the National Museum of Asian Art in Washington, DC, then hop up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Finally, you’ll jet out to San Francisco to visit the Asian Art Museum there.

Along the way, you’ll explore the Art Histories of India, China, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, and more. One special area of inquiry will be the thorny issues of appropriation and repatriation, and the importance of provenance in determining where these works of art truly belong. This program is intended for adults.

Join us for our “Art History Illustrated” talk series, held the third Thursday of every month at 5:30 p.m. This monthly illustrated talk series is presented by art historian Brenda Edgar, in collaboration with The Floyd County Carnegie Library Cultural Arts Center.
