In this exclusive experiential session with Professor Tatiana Bachkirova, we will explore the notion of the paradox of choice in coaching.
If we are making progress according to most developmental stage theories, one of the interesting capabilities that we tend to develop is recognizing and dealing with many of the paradoxes that can arise in our lives. In coaching practice there seem to be a considerable number of paradoxes. One such paradox, concerned with the source of our choices and decisions, has serious implications for the way we see ourselves, and our clients, and consequently for our attitudes to change and our coaching strategies.
In this workshop we will:
Engage in a practical way with the paradox of choice in coaching
Learn how we can recognize and distinguish ‘organic’ choices of our clients from ‘non-organic’
Discuss new conceptual work and research that will allow us to look at our intentions for change and responsibility for choices from a fresh perspective
Explore some new ways of working with our clients
Begin to understand the implications for our own personal development and the way we see the world
N.B. This workshop is not designed just to add to your coaching tool kit. There are no simple answers to complex dilemmas of practice. Rather, we will be engaging in a topic that has the potential to expand our mind, and through this, increase our overall professional capability.
Who should attend?
Experienced practitioners who wish to challenge the rationale for their practice and question strategies that have become familiar and repetitive; and
