IAN MAKSIN “BACK TO CLASSICS” with special guest Nataliya Medvedovskaya at (le) poisson rouge
6:00 pm doors | 7:00 pm show | 21+
After nearly 200 solo shows in more than 30 countries in 2018, Ian Maksin returns to NYC’s iconic crossover venue LPR (Le Poisson Rouge) for a program which will feature music by his favorite classical composers: Bach, Piazzolla, Ginastera, Shchedrin, Bartok, as well as his own new original music inspired by his recent travels to Georgia, Armenia, Siberia and South America. This time he will be joined by his childhood classmate Nataliya Medvedovskaya, with whom he attended the Special School for Gifted Children at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in Leningrad more than 30 years ago. Natalya is currently a NYC-based pianist, composer, and the artistic director of the International Pushkin Society. Some of Ian’s and Natalya’s collaborative compositions will also be featured in this program.
Russian born NATALIYA MEDVEDOVSKAYA is a professional, versatile, award winning concert pianist, composer, arranger, songwriter, poet and lyricist, who creates memorable and unique compositions with a focus on brightness of melody and richness of harmony. Her compositions cross the boundaries between Classical Contemporary and Popular music, embracing a wide range of genres. NATALIYA’s music goes from being dramatic, deep, mature and soulful, to being playful and whimsical/cartoon-like, often dynamic, expressive, refreshing and novel, always filled with imagination.
Russian-born Chicago-based cellist and composer IAN MAKSIN has gained international recognition for his beautiful tone, his own unique innovative style of playing the instrument and for taking the cello well outside its conventional role. Although still very active as a classical artist, Ian Maksin’s latest focus has shifted towards blending many styles together: jazz, blues, rock, and world music using cello as the key common element. He can often be heard and seen in collaborative projects with artists from different corners of the globe: Palestine, Israel, Morocco, Cuba, Serbia, Iran, Pakistan, India, Spain, Mexico, Japan. As a guest artist, he has performed and recorded with such artists as Andrea Bocelli, P. Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Gloria Estefan and Barry Gibb. He has also opened performances for Sting and his guitarist Dominic Miller.
