Happier Hour: Philosophy to make your life suck less

The Happier Hour is a monthly event series bringing philosophy out of the ivory tower of academia and into our modern day agora: the bar. It’s like the self-help section– only way funnier, smarter, and with booze. And now it’s a podcast too! TheHappierHour.org/podcast #thehappierhour

Doors 3:30pm, show 4:00pm.Tickets $15 adv / $20 door.21+

Daniel Campos teaches and writes philosophy as a middle path to explore his interests in mathematics, literature, and sport. These passions, along with his zest for traveling, listening to live music, swimming, snorkeling, and dancing, form the core of what he does in philosophy. An immigrant from Central America, he is a professor at Brooklyn College - CUNY and the author of Loving Immigrants in America (Lexington Books, 2017). You can read more of his writings on his philosophical blog: https://saunteringinamerica.blogspot.com/ and say hello on Twitter at @Daniel_G_Campos.

Alisha Vimawala is a native Midwesterner turned NYC denizen. She daylights as a product/data junkie, and moonlights as a whimsical cotton candy confectioner and children's book author. She is constantly curious about the latest in tech gadgetry and, unsurprisingly, overloads her iPhone storage with a comically excessive number of apps.

Jezebel Express is a New York dance artist known for her quick wit and spectacular shimmy-shaking performances. She can regularly be found in New York City on top of various bars, but she has traveled the world performing and teaching (recent stops include Reykjavik and Prague!) Jezebel is an instructor at the New York School of Burlesque, and she believes that glamour is for EVERYONE. She specializes in choreography/dance storytelling, fan dancing, and body confidence classes. Monica McCarthy is the creator and host of The Happier Hour: Philosophy To Help Life Suck Less. She is also the founder of  Cheshire Parlour, an agency bringing meaningful dialogues to communities including Holstee, Impact Hub, 92Y, and Escape The City, where she has curated and facilitated hundreds of events focused on purpose and interdisciplinary connections. Most recently, Monica is honored to be a Founding Faculty Member for The School of Life in North America. She is also passionate about actual happy hour (pass the bubbly) and speakeasies (pass the bourbon). Monica’s interest in philosophy began at Pepperdine University as a student in The Great Books Colloquium.Monica is also an actress, and has performed on Broadway and in television and film, from from NYC to LA to Japan to the UK. MonicaMcCarthy.net Speaking of travel, Monica's passport is never far away. So far her travels have taken her to 50 countries on 6 continents and counting. But she still has zero sense of direction.
