Founded on the rag-tag instrumentation of Igor Stravinsky's L'Histoire du Soldat, New York-based Exceptet is an ensemble with "vast emotional range and onomatopoetic charm" (I Care If You Listen) dedicated to commissioning today’s most compelling emerging composers. Exceptet has been presented by The Johnstone Foundation for New Music in Columbus, OH, Roulette Intermedium in Brooklyn, the Ecstatic Music Festival as part of the MATA Interval Series in New York, The Times Two Series in Boston, the Queens New Music Festival, The UPenn Composers Guild, and has been showcased several times on WQXR. The group has commissioned new works from a wide range of composers, including Scott Wollschleger, Matt Evans, Brendon Randall-Myers, Sarah Goldfeather, Fay Kueen Wang, Alex Weiser, Fjola Evans, Brooks Frederickson, Paul Kerekes, Brian Petuch, and Eric Shanfield. They have additionally collaborated with Exceptet violinist Sarah Goldfeather’s indie folk-band, Goldfeather.
The members of Exceptet are decorated musicians in their own right, and have played with such notable groups as Ensemble Signal, Metropolis Ensemble, Contemporaneous, the New World Symphony, Asphalt Orchestra, Ed Palermo Big Band; worked with artists such as Steve Reich, Julia Wolfe, Kimbra, David Byrne, Belle and Sebastian, Wye Oak, Suzanne Vega, Courtney Love, Todd Almond, Artie Lange, and with Beth Morrison Projects; and they have performed on Broadway, at Radio City, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Bang On A Can Marathon, the Montreal Jazz Festival, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, to name a few.
Described as "A talented group that exemplifies the genre-obliterating direction of contemporary classical music (Columbia Free Times)", Warp Trio is an Internationally touring cross-genre chamber music experience. Reflecting the combination of Juilliard trained members juxtaposed with members steeped in rock and jazz styles, the one of a kind trio can be seen performing classical works in prestigious halls on the same tour where they headline a standing room only show at a rock venue. In addition to their electrifying public performances, they have gained a reputation for their innovative educational workshops with students from grade school through university level.
Maintaining a busy performance schedule, Warp has performed hundreds of concerts all across the United States, in addition to tours throughout The United Kingdom, Spain, Switzerland, Holland, Germany, and the Caribbean. Highlights of the past season include headlining performances at The LEM Festival for Experimental Music in Barcelona, the Sold-Out World premiere of their Triple Concerto for Piano Trio and Orchestra with the New York City based Urban Playground Chamber Orchestra, and in addition were the honored recipients of a New York Foundation for the Arts Grant.
