So we made it a thing.In Gaia Music Collective's One-Night Choir series, we will do just that - gather and do some community-building & ensembleship exercises, then dive into a piece of vocal music for the evening. Led by Gaia founder and vocal music veteran Matt Goldstein, we'll rehearse, run things section by section, break down the emotions at play in the piece, work on some of the key musical moments, and culminate in recording a casual rehearsal video of the piece at the end for posterity. While we'll strive to make the music sound tight, the focus of the evening will be on singing our hearts out and having a good time.This event's featured piece will be "Sleep", an iconic piece of original choral music written by Eric Whitacre, the swooshy-haired rockstar of 21st century choral music. Whitacre is famous for his yummy, crunchy cluster chords and sweeping melodies, and this piece is a perfect example of his masterful musical toolbox.
