2019 Women's Jazz Festival WEEK 3: Lekecia Benjamin


The Schomburg Center’s Annual Women's Jazz Festival, in honor of Women’s History Month, features some of the best-known and unsung female performers in jazz today. The 2019 festival is slated for each Monday in March – March 4, 11, 18 and 25. 

Join us for a special evening with saxophonist and bandleader Lakecia Benjamin presenting "A Woman’s Perspective, We March On" as a part of her A Women's Perspective series, paying special tribute to Aretha Franklin, Nancy Wilson and Nina Simone.

Women's Jazz Festival Schedule:

Week 1: March 4 - Dear Nina, a sonic love letter to Nina Simone With Drea d'Nur & Strings by Rootstock Republic.

Week 2: March 11 - A Salute to Women in BebopCurated by musican and composer Diedre L. Murray, Oo-Bla-Dee

Week 3: March 18 - A Woman’s Perspective, We March On With Lakecia Benjamin, saxophonist/bandleader 

Week 4: March 25 - Closing Night!
