About this Event

REMARKS: Dr. Antoinette A. Coleman, Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs

EMCEE: Dr. Brenda Greene, Founder and Executive Director, The Center for Black Literature

Drawing on the theme of the Conference, All That We Carry: Where Do We Go From Here? Griffin will engage Michael Eric Dyson in a conversation on how we move forward in a public space characterized by environmental racism, social injustice, an attack on the Black body, domestic violence and terrorism, and an absence of empathy and peace. The discussion will be followed by a Q & A from the audience and book signings by Dyson and Griffin.

About The Host: Founded in 2002, the mission of the Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College (CBL) is to expand, broaden, and enrich the public’s knowledge and aesthetic appreciation of Black literature. The Center is a nationally respected resource for Black writers and the general public to study the literature of people from the African Diaspora. It is the only center devoted to this in the country. The Center was also established to institutionalize the National Black Writers Conference (NBWC), founded by John Oliver Killens in 1986 at Medgar Evers College. To achieve its core mission, CBL partners with local high schools, Medgar Evers College, as well as with literary, community, and cultural arts organizations nationwide. With our partners, we present public and academic programs to youth, high school students, college students, and the public. Our offerings include author readings, literary workshops, writer retreats, conferences, symposia, and a biennial journal.Dr. Brenda M. Greene is the founder and executive director of the Center for Black Literature.
