Veggie Pride Parade celebrates veganism and exercises the First Amendment rights of those who oppose violence against other animals.
Marching in the Veggie Pride Parade publicly affirms one's refusal to consume dead-animal bodies and live-animal secretions. With each step, participants denounce the view that other animals are merely objects and that exploiting and killing them is "normal."
All are welcome—whether vegan and or just vegan-curious—to join in the parade and in the festivities afterwards, which will include vegan speakers, animal-protection organizations, and networking opportunities. We look forward to seeing you there!
Veggie Pride Parade, now in its 11th year, is co-hosted by the Humane Party, a U..S political party committed to rights, personhood, and political representation for all animals—not just the human kind.
We will line up at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 8th 2018 in the old meatpacking district at 9th Ave and Gansevoort Street (approx. 40 Gansevoort St.), just two short blocks south of W. 14th Street. (The launch of the parade begins at noon sharp, but please arrive early to build the "buzz" and "attention"!)
Parade participants are encouraged to dress up in costumes and carry sign boards announcing their pride in their vegan lifestyle. The brighter, wilder, and bigger the better! We are making noise! Local restaurants, veg groups, and veg everything will be represented with banners and chants.
The parade route runs from the Old Meat District to Union Square Park (North Plaza), New York, NY, and ends at approximately 12:45 p.m. with a fun and exciting festival of music, food, speakers, and exhibitors from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
At 2 p.m., a costume contest will take place.
Throughout the day, individuals will be encouraged to speak their mind at the Soapbox Testimonial Station. Other activists will beckon passersby to receive a dollar in return for watching a pro-veg video.
for information and photos of past events. (The site will be updated soon with this years speakers and program.)
The organizers of the 2018 Veggie Price Parade would like to thank founder and original coordinator Pamela Rice for her years of vision, determination and dedication towards making this event what it is today. May 2018 be our biggest, farthest reaching and most successful gathering ever!
ABOUT UNION SQUARE PARK
Union Square is an important and historic intersection and surrounding neighborhood in Manhattan, New York City, located where Broadway and the former Bowery Road – now Fourth Avenue – came together in the early 19th century; its name denotes that "here was the union of the two principal thoroughfares of the island" rather than celebrating either the Federal union of the United States or labor unions. The current Union Square Park is bounded by 14th Street on the south, Union Square West on the west side, 17th Street on the north, and on the east Union Square East, which links together Broadway and Park Avenue South to Fourth Avenue and the continuation of Broadway. The park is under the aegis of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.
The 11th annual 2018 Veggie Pride Parade NYC take place in the North Plaza of Union Park on Sunday, April 8 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for a day of celebration and festivities.
ALL are WELCOME.
We are ONE!
