Establishing healthy eating habits during the preschool years is significantly more effective and easier than attempting to change unhealthy behaviors later in life. A recent retrospective review conducted by the Health Education Alliance of Louisiana, utilizing data collected by Louisiana State University Health Science Center School of Nursing Junior II nursing students, screened blood pressure percentiles (BP%) and body mass index (BMI) from kindergarten to eighth grade. This review identified risk factors indicative of poor cardiovascular health for children living in Southeast Louisiana.Session Goals: Attending this informative and interactive session will provide valuable information for those who routinely care for young children, helping to alter the trajectory of poor cardiovascular health. Attendees will learn about currently implemented programs and processes that incorporate preschoolers' psychosocial, cognitive, and sensory-motor developmental predictors to enhance their knowledge of and engagement in healthy eating behaviors (HEB).Target AudienceRegistered Nurses, other healthcare professionals, preschool educators, parents and guardians, community leaders, childcare providers, and public health officials, all of whom play a crucial role in promoting healthy eating behaviors in young children.ObjectivesAt the conclusion of the educational activity, participants will be able to:Explain how a poor diet contributes to specific health outcomes.Describe various treatment modalities that promote healthy eating behaviors.Key Components:· Overview of effective programs and processes for promoting HEB in preschoolers.· Integration of developmental predictors to enhance preschoolers' understanding and engagement in HEB.· Open forum discussion on successful strategies and clinical case scenarios.· Identification of clinical manifestations, social determinants, and psychological factors contributing to poor eating behaviors.· Utilization of evidence-based guidelines and practices to address these issues.This seminar aims to equip attendees with the knowledge and tools necessary to foster healthy eating behaviors in young children, ultimately improving their long-term health outcomes.Participants can earn up to 2.0 contact hours of nursing continuing professional development credit.
