Versesmithery II : Poetry, Prose and More


After an overwhelming response for its first event, Versesmithery brings to you its second informal event to celebrate poetry, prose and music.

The afternoon will feature slam poetry and musical performances from artists around the city to consolidate art on a common platform.

We are inviting 10 slam/hidden poets and prose writers to showcase their talent and share their experiences and stories. Kindly submit your entries in Hindi, English or Urdu at the following link:

Slam Poets :
------------
1) Somesh Thaplial

Somesh Thapliyal is a student of Plant Molecular Biology and a regular performer at poetry events across Delhi. He believes in tapping into the simplicity of words and complexity of emotions, and that slam poetry is a powerful tool for social change.

2) Afreen Zeb

Afreen Zeb is a writer, social activist, and event curator. A graduate from Lady Shri Ram College of Women, she is the founder of Queernama. Queernama is an LGBTQ platform that strives to bring queer stories to the forefront. Her efforts are to make queer art and poetry as normal as heteronormativity. Afreen's aim is to encourage conversations, make space for the community and create a world with more acceptance. She spends all her time promoting inclusivity, spreading rainbows and smashing the patriarchy.

3) Uppa Tsuyo Bantawa

Uppa Tsuyo Bantawa is a spoken word artist who combines gender conflicts, LGBTQ experiences, love and feminism with a poetic rhythm unique to her.

"I come from a lot of difficult things and circumstances. Life is challenging to all of us and we try to find solace in things comforting. Poetry to me is therapeutic, it helped me escape a lot of things, it still does. Through my art I try to share struggles, experiences, emotions and struggles of human lives."

Music :
------
"Fable" is a 3 piece acoustic setup from Delhi. A concoction of rock, pop and blues, the trio members met in 2015 and found their passion in performance art. They've featured in venues like Benihana, Zu Tisch, The Roseate, Mocha Arthouse and Cafe and even the cultural night at the prestigious annual cultural fest of IP University, Anugoonj.
