1. Premier of Naked Wheels, a documentary road trip film by Rajesh James
2. Screening of In Search Of...Clear Skies, a documentary on queer lives, exploration and assertions by Nitendra Singh
3. One day hunger strike in solidarity with fasting JNU students. Queer folks and allies join us please.
It has been a rough-and-tumble two years for free speech and constitutional rights. From a gradual squeezing of civil society spaces and growing casteism in university campuses to a militarization of discourse and nationalistic intimidation, India today appears under seige.
The queer struggle is deeply entwined with this fight against casteism, classism, fascist religious and nationalist extrimism and crackdown on free thought -- a liberation for the LGBTQ+ is not possible if caste/class/race/gender/sexuality/ability discrmination festers and if the government of the day can trample upon students/tribals/Dalit rights. Through solidarity and from queer persons at various intersections, the queer struggle has resisted such dominant forces.
Come join us as we kick off our one-day hunger strike from 12am on Monday in solidarity with the fasting JNU students against a tyrannical university administration report. We fight against the implementation of the report, ending castesim on campuses in India, for an anti-discrimination Rohith Act and punishement for the killers of Rohith Vemula. We demand justice for Jisha, Delta Meghwal and the countless caste atrocities every year.
We kick off our programme with two movie screenings: The premier of Naked Wheels, a documentary by Rajesh James; and In Search of...Clear Skies, a documentary by Nitendra Singh.
