Future Historians Program: "Extraordinary Women in U.P. History," by Dr. Emily Romeo, NMU

In 2024, the Beaumier Upper Peninsula Heritage Center at Northern Michigan University researched and installed an exhibit recognizing 60 influential women from the Upper Peninsula. Many were born and raised in the Upper Peninsula and others came to the region later in life, but they all share great accomplishments in their careers, volunteerism, and community service. Some went on to have careers that have had an impact on the nation and even the world, where others stayed in their hometowns and made them better communities for everyone. At this meeting Dr. Romeo will share stories about some of these iconic women and their historic contributions to Michigan and Upper Peninsula history.

The Future Historian Program is open to all students ages 10 and up. Presentations will be held monthly September through April (except December), and special living history day camps during the summer. Free admission
