                "description": "Opened in 1822, the City Cemetery is the oldest continuously operated public cemetery in Nashville. The Nashville City Cemetery in an outstanding outdoor museum focusing on the history of Middle Tennessee.In response to the disrepair, vandalism, and neglect over many decades, former Mayor Bill Purcell and the Metro Council approved the Mayor's Capital Budget request for a project to restore the City Cemetery. The Restoration, including conserved tombstones and monuments as well as new street signs, lighting, paved walkways & roadways and interpretive signage is overseen by the Nashville City Cemetery Assocaition Inc.  The annual living history tour is a fundraiser to continue the efforts begun under the project and continuing today.The Nashville City Cemetery Association, Inc. is a membership organization that works to protect, preserve, restore and raise public awareness of the Nashville City Cemetery in collaboration with the Historical Commission of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee.  It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation."
