Heritage Walk 22 Yarralumla Nursery

Heritage Walk 22 Yarralumla Nursery

We’ll have privileged access to this wonderful area with its heritage listed 1915 buildings, numerous historical artefacts and the early plantings by the father of Canberra trees, Charlie Weston.
Yarralumla Nursery is still an operational plant nursery after 105 years and the Walk will explore the various uses for the land and buildings over the years. Discover how and what plants were grown and the impact this has made on the Garden City. The Walk will also visit the English Gardens in Weston Park and the original caretaker’s cottage.
This is a unique opportunity - not to be missed!
Meeting Point: Outside Yarralumla Gallery and Oaks Brasserie in Weston Park (The cafe near the Heritage Nursery). Free parking in the car park.
Length and terrain: This will be a series of short walks taking between 1.5-2 hours covering 1.5 km on level paved or gravel surfaces with the occasional step.   Disability access can also be arranged through the rear gate of the Yarralumla Nursery.  Toilet facilities are available on site at Yarralumla Nursery and at the café.
Walk leaders:  Our guides will be successors to Charles Weston - Jane Carder, the current General Manager of Yarralumla Nursery, and Chris Ware, Jane’s predecessor in that role.  Chris has made an extensive study of the Nursery’s heritage and has brought much new information to light.
Bad weather: Unless otherwise advised by email, the leader will be at the meeting point where a decision will be made as to whether to proceed or postpone.
Note:  For the comfort and safety of other walkers, we do not allow dogs on our walks.
