Skep Making Course (make a Medieval Straw Bee hive)

Hello I am Tina the Skep Maker with over 20 years experience of skep making and tutoring. On this day course you will learn how to create your own Bee Skep / traditional straw bee hive or swarm collecting skep. Using the ancient skill of Lip Work.

You will learn all the skills needed to create a 12 inch x 12 inch hive or a 14 inch x 9 swarm collecting skep.

All materials will be provided and tools will be yours to take home and keep. If you don't quite finish you hive on the day. You will have all the skills, materials, tools and knowledge to do so at home.

I will also bring with me a display and information on the history of early beekeeping, interesting folklore etc. Which will also include the Anglo Saxon style wicker daub hive (Alvery) as well as other straw skeps. Which I am happy to talk about at length!

Skep making is a rare skill and is on the red list for Endangered Heritage Crafts. It is appealing to anyone with a lover of nature, history or making.

Places are limited as it will be a small focused class.
