Bafta nominated Danny Chang brings his fabulous new show 'Divas Through The Eras' to Newport Memorial Hall this coming Friday the 25th of July.
I recorded at the first Beatles studio when I was thirteen and had to get a note from my mum to take the time off school to record.
I turned professional at the age of fifteen playing summer seasons and gigging the dance halls along the south coast.
For years I toured playing Reading Festival in 1982 and sleeping in the back of Transit vans while we gigged anywhere that would have us. At the age of 28 my manager Jim Doyle said you're too old to become the rock star, lets get you into scoring for film and television and that's where I have been for the last forty years.
As my career has naturally slowed I wanted to form a band that would celebrate the great songwriters and female artists that I grew up with and some I finally got to work with. I have picked a great bunch of musicians to join me on my quest to entertain.
Having two great vocalists in India and Jenny Jones really brings the songs to life. Multi instrumentalist Dick Hamer who is a couple of years younger than me toured with the Supremes band as a young man and has a wealth of experience. Bassist Salvatore De Basso toured with the Semantics for over twenty years and I was lucky to recruit him as he is a fine bass player and has this wonderful energy about him. My co/founder drummer Martin Bowen is the powerhouse behind the band and we have spent the last two years searching for the right players to see our vision. The last piece of the puzzle was keyboardist Pat Molesworth. Pat is the main composer with British prog rock band Zeelley Moon and we were so pleased when he decided to join us earlier this year.
As I have been a rock guy all my life I didn't want this to be a cheesy tribute act, this is a rock band that celebrates the music I grew up with.
