In the studio, artists hand paint fabric using a variety of adapted painting techniques that were learned from renowned art therapist, Patty Mitchell. After a two-week artist-in-residency program funded through a grant by the Ohio Arts Council, many people served by Filling Homes' adult day services discovered their artistic sides. The items sold in the Soaring Arts Studio store are the result of the process of our artists discovery of talents and tastes. One artist may enjoy painting solid colors on canvas while another may like adding touches of detail to those solid pieces, still another may want to spend time drawing designs or embroidering. In this collaborative process, the art studio participants, staff and volunteers work together to create unique, quality, handcrafted merchandise. Original drawings/designs are used as prototypes that are sent to die cut manufacturers. These designs can then be duplicated and transferred onto the painted fabric that is cut out and used to create appliqués.
