More on The Gift of Seed: Growing Gardens & Cultivating Cultures of Care Beyond Consumption
led by Petra Page-Mann of Fruition Seeds

“All flourishing is mutual,” as Robin Wall Kimmerer reminds us, and seeds brilliantly embody this generosity, creativity and care. Together, let’s cultivate gift culture in community by receiving hundreds of varieties of regionally adapted seeds as gifts, nourishing all generations to come! Come ready to reflect, connect and honor your gifts as well as we all learn to amplify the gifts of community together. Expect puppets! And lots of seeds! And to come alive as we explore living in ways both old and new.

More on Letters to the Earth
led by Angela Cannon-Crothers of Cumming Nature Center

All are welcome to write brief letters of gratitude, fear, hope, or devotion to the Earth. Great for all ages and experience levels, this exercise will include reading short examples, writing to a prompt, sharing work with one another (optional), and designing the resulting letter to be included in a collaborative art work.

Angela Cannon-Crothers is a naturalist, educator, and author. Her recent nonfiction book, Changing Seasons in The Finger Lakes, won the Cayuga Lake Books Award for Creative Nonfiction in 2019. Her other books include: The Wildcrafter (a novel), Our Voices, Our Wisdom; An Herb Haven Year, and Grape Pie Season (a children’s book illustrated by Darryl Abraham). Her first collection of poetry, Some Deeper Mystery, is forthcoming with Middle Creek Publishing in 2026. Most days she can be found playing in the woods with small packs of children—usually in face paint—as the Forest Schools and Nature Based Learning Program Manager at RMSC Cumming Nature Center in Naples, NY. She also co-leads the annual Anne LaBastille Women’s Writing Retreat at Great Camp Sagamore and the Naples Library Writing Group.

Marty Dodge grew up in Connecticut, earned a BA in Chemistry from Colby College and a Master of Forestry from Utah State University. He taught middle school science in Thomaston Maine, served as a deck watch officer aboard the USCG Cutter Sedge in Alaska, taught Environmental Science and conducted travel ecology courses through FLCC. Marty has maintained a journal for most of his life that now fills fourteen thousand pages in seventy-three volumes. He has published blogs entitled “Dispatches from Alaska” and “Musings from Barnum Wood” through FLCC. Friesen Press recently published Dodge’s book For the Love of Nature. This has sold out; a second edition is in process.

Stephen Lewandowski has retired after a forty year career with various conservation agencies while publishing sixteen large and small books of poetry and essays. He has been a conservation educator working with children, a technician working with farmers, a soil scientist, and a watershed analyst. His most recent publication is Ground Truth, Poems from the Field, a collection of poems published by Cayuga Lake Books in Ithaca, NY. He hopes his poetry will interest students of natural history, biological sciences, geology, watersheds and macroinvertebrates. He has spent the majority of his life in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York whose preservation and protection he alternately desires and despairs.

Petra Page-Mann grew up gifting seeds grown in her father’s garden in the Finger Lakes of New York. Her love of food, people and place led her all over the world studying seed, song and cultures of care. In 2012, she co-founded Fruition Seeds to share seeds, knowledge and inspiration nourishing regional resilience and collective flourishing. After selling seeds for 12 years, Fruition and Petra committed to gift culture, returning to seed gifting and growing new worlds. She is a foraging farmer, friend, neighbor, and auntie as well as mother of many millions of seeds to whom she is also the grateful granddaughter.

Stella Wong is the author of Stem (Princeton University Press) and Spooks (winner of the Saturnalia Books Editors Prize). A graduate of Harvard, the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and Columbia, Wong’s poems have appeared in POETRY, American Poetry Review, and The New Republic. She is an Electrical and Computer Engineering PhD.
