Open water marathon swimmer Jono Ridler is attempting a world-record swim from North Cape to Wellington as part of Swim4TheOcean, raising awareness for ocean health and calling for an end to bottom trawling. Since setting off from the top of the North Island, he’s powered through hundreds of kilometres of open water, facing wild currents and plenty of sea life along the way.

As Jono makes his way down the coast and towards Hawke’s Bay, we’re inviting the community to come together and give him a proper Ahuriri welcome.

Join us at Te Karaka (Perfume Point) to cheer Jono on as he reaches the Napier shoreline. There’ll be a free sausage sizzle, dipped strawberries, and a chance to hear from Jono and his support crew during a Q&A, where they’ll share stories from the journey and the kaupapa behind the swim.

Bring your signs, bring your whānau, and help us show him some Hawke’s Bay support after all those hours out in the ocean.
