- **Event Description**: Four of Napier’s premier music groups join together for a Gala Christmas concert at 5pm on Saturday December 20th in the  Cathedral:  Octavius Chamber Choir,  Hawks Brass Quintet, the Waiapu Cathedral Choir and the Cathedral Strings. 
Octavius has gained a loyal following since the choir was established in 2017.     In this concert they will sing a Merry Christmas medley and some favourite festive fare including “Follow that Star,” “Do You Hear What I Hear?”  and John Rutter’s  “Twelve Days of Christmas”.  
Hawks Brass Quintet is a group of highly-skilled horn-players; they performed here in the Christmas concert in 2024 and in the “Swing and a Prayer” Art Deco service in February this year.   The Quintet will present festive melodies including “Sleigh Ride”, selections from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite” and a contemporary “Christmas Jazz Suite”. They will accompany Octavius in a Latino version of “Jingle Bells” and, with the Strings, provide the  accompaniment for the audience singalong of well-known carols. 
Of course, you know that our Waiapu Cathedral Choir sing superbly.    They will present two of  John Rutter’s best-loved Christmas songs: the “Shepherd’s Pipe Carol” and “Candlelight Carol.” 
The Cathedral Strings regularly support the Cathedral Choir in special services and concerts.   They will take centre stage to perform ”A Christmas Medley” and “It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas” and accompany both choirs and audience in the sing-along carols.   All are welcome to enjoy this celebration of Christmas.   There is no entry fee for the concert; if you have enjoyed the music you may leave a Koha or donation as you leave.
