Inviting anyone who identifies as male, or who feels connected to masculine community spaces (including non-binary folks).
This is a weekly men’s group for those who value honesty, strength, and compassion. This space is about showing up — for ourselves and for each other — to practice kindness, accountability, and real connection.
What is this?
This is a sharing circle — a place to learn from one another’s compassion and insight as we grow into better fathers, husbands, partners, brothers, and friends, and nurture an accepting relationship with ourselves.
What ISN'T this?
This isn’t a therapy group. There are many skilled mental health professionals on Gabriola Island and beyond for those seeking that kind of support. The purpose of this circle is simply to lean on one another as trusted friends — to listen, share, and grow together, not to replace professional care.
Who are you?
I am Rory. I have been practicing men's work for about two years in Victoria and just recently moved here to this beautiful island. I have had the opportunity to lead groups like this one throughout the years.
So, are you the leader?
My intention is to create a collaborative atmosphere where we can take turns leading the group as we become more comfortable. I intend to lead the first few groups as I have a framework in mind, and pass it onto someone else if and when they feel ready.
How much does this cost?
Nothing! Again, this is a collaborative group and I want to create an atmosphere where we all contribute in our own ways.
I will be hosting the first group at my house while we find a suitable location (which may continue to be my house). If we decide on a location that costs money, we will need to contribute to that as a group.
Are there rules?
This is OUR group, not MINE. We make the rules together. However, there are a rules that apply to most groups such as this:
1. Confidentiality: Anything that gets said in this group is not to be repeated outside of the group.
2. Show up on time and be consistent with your attendance: Things happen, obviously, but the purpose is for us to be accountable to each other.
3. Be sober: it is just respectful.
4. Respect others' identities and culture: Hopefully this one is obvious.
Where can I learn MORE?
You can post a question in the discussion on the event page. I am also happy to have a phone chat with anyone. Just shoot me a friend request and/or a PM!
