You are invited to join us for a choral conversation that ranges from a tribute to Queen Elizabeth I, to an appeal for peace, to Bach with a walking bass, to the night, to evocative poetry, and to Christmas. The Island Consort Chamber Choir presents its fall concert, “Choral Delights”, 2:30 pm, November 30th at St. Andrew’s United Church.
The program begins with Hubert Parry’s, “My Delight and Thy Delight” and proceeds through works by Gibbons, Byrd, Britten and Mendelssohn (organ accompanist, Jenny Vincent), leading to a contemporary work by Dan Forrest accompanied by cellist, Hannah Wilson. For contrast, the first half ends with a Swingle Singers-like rendition of 2 short pieces by J.S. Bach – accompanied by two students (bass and drums) from Wellington High School.
The 2nd half presents music by Elgar, Lauridsen, Morricone (with cello and oboist, Pippa Williams), and ends with a nod to the upcoming Christmas Season. The set of 4 “seasonal” songs includes Helvering’s contemporary “All My Heart Again Rejoices”, Rutter’s beautiful arrangement of “Es Ist Ein Ros’ Entsprungen” (with oboe accompaniment), Silent Night, and the popular Winter Wonderland.
