To mark this 20th anniversary of Gabriola Players, we are going back to where it all began with a staged reading of "7 Stories" by Morris Panych, described as a “fast-paced, philosophical and hilarious” play.
In this comedic absurdist play, a man walks onto the seventh-floor ledge of an apartment building contemplating suicide, only to be interrupted by the eccentric residents of the building, whose own stories are revealed as they converse with him through their windows.
Almost sounds like a punchline with a twist: "Suppose a man goes out on a ledge to end it all, but instead of the old cliché where the do-gooder cop / counsellor talks him back down, the people who do open their windows to talk to him are so preoccupied with their own trivial problems that they barely notice why he’s there?"
NOTE: The play's premise, however dark, leads to a humorous examination of human nature and the meaning of life.
NOTE: We are thrilled that presenting this play as "staged reading" has encouraged many new actors to join our cast.
