Book reading : Apostoloff
Our first book reading of the year will feature the thrilling book 'Apostoloff' by Sibylle Lewitscharoff.
The novel tells the story of two sisters who travel to Sofia to bury their father. Like tourists, they are chauffeured by Ruben Apostoloff who attempts to show them the treasures of his beloved country: the peacock-eye pottery , the Black Sea coast and the architecture.
His approaches to win the two distinct sisters over, seems doomed to fail, as the sisters’ Bulgarian heritage is a heavy burden.
An account of a daughter’s bitterly funny reckoning with her father and his country, laden with linguistic wit and black humor, Apostoloff will introduce the unique voice of Sibylle Lewitscharoff to a new and eager audience.
Excerpts from the novel will be read in English and German.
Entry is free.
